COOL STRUTTIN'
is an album of original material which comes
from the recording sessions of Chris
Watson (Guitar),
Lewis Hall (Bass)
& Steve
Farmer (Drums)
The three
guys had built up a considerable musical understanding
during a period of time when they took to the road
performing the music of
Jimi Hendrix. This
soon blossomed into a more eclectic format which included
the music of Focus, Peter
Greens Fleetwood Mac, Cream and
Santana. In turn this music gradually gave way to a growing
collection of original material which began to
dominate their live performances.
This album
represents the creative fruits of this period. Much of the
music is spontaneous and little to no rehearsal was
involved. This results in a improvisational raw energy that
galvanizes the music. There is an interesting diversity
between the tracks that results from the unique musical
experience each of the members brings to the trio.
Chris
Watson has had a very interesting musical
career, playing in professional bands since his early teens,
he then toured with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra as a
featured soloist for 7 years. While studying at the
Guildhall School of Music & Drama Chris began working in
West End theatre orchestras and studio session orchestras
including the LWT Television orchestra. Chris Watson has
played for people as diverse as Cilla Black to The
Temptations, Bob Monkhouse to Courtney Pine. He has also
recorded for Elaine Paige, John Dankworth, John Williams and
The Sugar Babes (including an extended guitar improvisation
solo on their first international hit 'Overload').
Chris started working with Lewis Hall
& Steve Farmer in the summer of 2003 playing a tribute to
Jimi Hendrix in venues and festivals around Cambridgeshire
and Lincolnshire. Chris had recorded a Jazz album and a
Latin album before embarking on the more rock orientated
Cool Struttin’.
